So Wednesday, more commonly known as hump day, can be a great day or an awful day depending on the week. We all know that feeling where you gotta get up and go to work and you’re no closer to the weekend than you were yesterday. However, a Wednesday is usually quite slow and feel like it’ll will never end (hence the hump day). Well I can tell you, that so wasn’t the case for today. This particular Wednesday hit me like a tonne of bricks.
I arrived at work 7:25am to start at 7:30 and it was hell for leather all morning. We have had multiple sickness call ins, annoyed and unhappy customers and generally a tense environment throughout the office.
How to ease the tension in your office/working space when things hit the fan?
Well today I decided we needed to open the door to allow some fresh air into the office and allow all the negativity to drift out the door. Fresh air has an amazing way of changing the feeling of a space.
Turn up the music from the radio because lets face there is not much better than a bit of classic pop music to ease the tension in an office. Music is a classic method to calm and ease tension and lets be serious, who can stay annoyed or tense when the best boogie song is playing?
I have a little octopus that sits on my desk that has 2 sides to him, a happy face and then when you turn him inside out an angry face. The best way to get my colleagues to laugh and break the tension is to keep changing the face facing them. Nothing better than a good laugh to change the whole atmosphere. So find something you can use to make everyone laugh even if they don’t want to. Laughter is the best medicine.
At one point in the day, when the rain had stopped I took a short walk outside to turn my thoughts around and boy did that help. Taking a walk when you are a little tense, eases everything and gets your mind back in perspective. These days don’t last forever.
Do you get these days in your work and how do you deal with them? Share your tips in the comments, I would love to hear your tips.
Don’t forget when you have these kinds of days, we all have them and they aren’t forever and if they end up being endless, it may be worth looking for another job with a better environment.
Until next time…

Taking a short walk on your lunch break at work is a great idea! I used to do that all the time when I worked in an office.
It makes a world of difference doesn’t it ☺️ thanks for reading
Aw it’s a bad habit to break once you start, but when my office used to get sour like that, I would escape for a quick coffee run. That used to help improve my mood. Going outside to walk is a much healthier option! 🙂
i def recommend taking walks to break tension during work are great! i used to work in customer service and there were tons of frustrating moments. those walks were lifesavers.
Ooh customer service is tough work.. Getting away to clear your head can be the thing that can save your job because it really clears any negative emotion you’re feeling ☺️
I’m so glad you enjoyed my post ☺️ thank you for reading
I hate days when everyone calls in sick but it seems all too common these days.
It’s so true Jamie.. I almost never take days off of work because I know what I does to everyone else in the office when I do.. Thank you for taking the time here☺️
